Benefits of reading a picture story book to a child on feelings:
Many of us find it difficult to talk about our feelings and how to express emotions. Reading a picture story book focused on feelings helps children understand what feelings are, in relation to themselves and others.
Our book review:
This is a lovely book about expressing your feelings.
“Flare” is about a beautiful bird with red and gold feathers, who is tough and strong. Cloud, Wind and Sun watched over him. They tried to show him how crying will help him express his feelings.
Cloud cried. Rain fell. Wind whooshed and wailed. Sun shone and lit up a spot where a baby bird was crying. Flare feels empathy and compassion for the baby bird with a broken wing. He cries, but his tears are magical!
This book has colourful illustrations by award winning author Genevieve Cote, and short chapters, making it very easy to read. Older children will be able to read this book themselves. A beautiful story about a beautiful bird, with a beautiful ending.
This is a short story about empathy, compassion, and expressing your feelings, for ages 5 to 8.
